Head Transplant.

Italian surgeon Sergio Canavero believes he can do a head transplant within the next 2 years.
Personally I would have thought this would be impossible, if we cannot fully repair the spinal cord of those people who are paralysed how can we ever consider doing a head transplant.
On the lighter side the mind boggles as to what could be done if head transplants ever became possible

The Tracy family in Thunderbirds seem to manage alright.
Well, OK, their heads wobble a bit and you can see the strings, but ...

Re: Head Transplant.

From what I've read and heard, head transplant yes but no spinal cord reconnection yet or even in sight.

Not sure how that would work as the only other option is to  leave the brain stem intact to the spinal cord and somehow connect that to the new head.
Certainly going to give more than one person a headache to achieve that.
The saying you can't but  an old brain on young shoulders may no longer be true.

Re: Head Transplant.

But he had his own head refitted - does that count?

Re: Head Transplant.

I suppose that though Worzel, Data, and Kryten changed heads they all were sort of their own heads.
Different heads/bodies would leave "The Fly" and the brief body possession of Lexx's Robot Head.
Must be lots more.

Re: Head Transplant.

Data never had his head changed, he only had it separated for diagnostics, or because he travelled back in time, got caught in a swirly thing, his head fell off and his body returned to the right time and his head which was buried in the past but dug up in the future was refitted after a cleanup and something removed from his head that stuck-in-the-past Picard left there to send a message with...
