Haynes Manuals

Unless Poppy and jmdlp are closet car mechanics, this may mainly interest those guys with a leaning towards messing about with spanners and other tools.
Haynes motor manuals have been around for many years, some years ago they expanded to include manuals for domestic appliances, and other house maintenance, plumbing, electrical etc. there's even a Haynes sex manual.
But about a year ago, a "manual" for the Supermarine Spitfire was added, and recently for the Avro Lancaster, these are unashamed puff pieces for the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. If you're at all interested in WW2 aircraft, or just fancy knowing how to strip down and reassemble a Spitfire or a Lancaster bomber, then I suggest you invest a few quid in these truly fascinating books.

Re: Haynes Manuals

not much demand for the Lancaster one is there ?
Only two airworthy examples left ?.
One with the RAF, the other I believe in Canada ?.
On the other hand there are dozens of rebuilt Spitfires

Re: Haynes Manuals

It does get a bit infuriating when, for example, you could have Girling, Lockheed or Lucas brake parts (depending on the whim of a production line store man) and the manual shows one sort.

Re: Haynes Manuals

we have a firm near Safron Waldon that makes "NEW" Spitfires.
About 20 years ago, one of the company personel bods where I worked wrote a lot of the Haynes manual, before he "fell" out of favour

Re: Haynes Manuals

Close one - a Triumph Vitesse instead. At least access to the engine and suspension was easy .
I hate to think though how one would fair in a collision  Shocked

Re: Haynes Manuals

On the subject of Haynes Manuals;
Does anyone want to buy a the Haynes Manual for a late late '80s Austin Metro.
Well thumbed, but good condition for year. There are quite a few oil stains in the gearbox section and over-spray and filler in the bodywork section. Also some pages have got a little wet around the boot.
Serious offers only by PM please.
