Can any one tell me why George is the patron saint of England and what he did for this country? The same for Andrew and Scotland.

The adoption of patron saints by christians was usually done long after the saints were dead. More often than not they had no direct connection with the countries but, being a religious thing, accuracy and relevance were way down the list of priorities for those who wanted to make connections to legends and myths.
