Re: Hands free phones in cars

There are several versions around of a quote by Winston Churchill but the theme was:

“I only believe statistics that I have doctored myself”,

@Champnet  I'm not so sure. I even silence the missus, when joining the carriageway from a slip.

No one has to agree with my opinion, but in the time I have left a miracle would be nice.

Re: Hands free phones in cars

Quick question; do we know, if any other countries have such a ban?

Quick answer, no idea. Wink

Seriously, just checked and it seems France has had a ban on using hands free phones since 2015. Now that is a surprise.

Re: Hands free phones in cars

It might be a bit late into the party for banning hands-free phones now that hands-free cars are appearing!  Funny

And we all know how good the French are at obeying rules!

Re: Hands free phones in cars

Here's an articlewith a list of what is permitted within Europe.

@Minivanman It appears to differ from your report on France.

Not quite, but more so on Fridays in Summer. The road near us is packed, or if not so some idiot drivers making their way  to Bournemouth and other points West. There are many accidents over a close 2-3 mile stretch, some fatal.

@Luzern

It would appear so.

I'll find the report which was in a recent English language newspaper if I can and get back to you.

Gotta get these things right. Thumbs Up

Re: Hands free phones in cars

I know in Spain, you have to have a properly fitted kit. You cannot use the Cyberman effect bluetooth equipment, neither can you use ear buds. The Police are now also using drones to enforce driving standards (good luck with that!!).

@Luzern

Here you go. I can only assume then that 'the objective' was never implemented.

"France has set the objective to reduce the number of road deaths in half by the year 2020. On Friday April 3, the Interior Ministry announced several measures to achieve this goal, including the ban of hands-free kits in vehicles that will take effect on June 30, 2015. The ban includes any mobile device hands-free kit that requires an ear bud, Bluetooth headset, earpiece or headphones, including those kits that only require one ear and leave the second ear free"

Re: Hands free phones in cars

@Marksfish

That was the puzzle, how the heck are the police going to know if somebody is talking on the phone.

The driver could just as well be chatting to a passenger, arguing with some radio show they are listening to.... or praying for rain in Spain!

Crazy eh. Crazy2
