Re: HS2 in the slow lane

makes you wonder why there talking about stuff running on tracks over here, not as if maglev hasn't been in use for 10 years and got a proven track record as it were, true the new version being proposed does run a darn site faster than those versions currently in use but that just requires a rolling stock replacement and makes you wonder why the government and train companies aren't looking at implementing them here in ole blighty, certainly they work regardless of the weather or leaves on the track ..........and they would no longer need to spend so much on track repairs etc making it not only faster and more reliable but also cheaper in day to day running terms, but hey its a big up front cost for much lower fare prices returns so the shareholders wont like it ...

Only in Japan will you get such technical ingenuity and precision engineering, over here we're still using Diesel locos from the 1960s...... Huh

Re: HS2 in the slow lane

I can honestly say I am
ASHAMED TO BE BRITISH.
This is a technological marvel without a shadow of a doubt but the train was invented HERE in the UNITED KINGDOM.
Now we don't do anything... and why? So that the rich can have as much money as possible with their 'service' industries such as call centres, checkout assistants etc. We have no real skills here anymore and THOSE are what enable people to earn higher money etc.
This country is a chuffing mess.

Re: HS2 in the slow lane

well that's what happens when you have 15 years of unmitigated socialism running the country into the ground and selling everything of worth to the lowest bidder they could find never mind the decimation of the education system or the destruction of the social welfare and healthcare systems and lets ignore the twisted mess of a legal system they left behind, and people are campaigning for the most destructive force known to the UK since Hitler to be back in power .......makes you wonder what the hell happened to derail the most prosperous and wealthy nation on earth (wealth being a metric of knowledge and skills) perhaps changing all those pesky labour laws so every company and their dog can contract out everything from civic dues (like national insurance and taxes) to labour camps in the 3rd world has something to do with it .....

And when was it good?  before or after Beeching?  before, after, or during Thatcher? before the first world war, or after it.... and what happened in between? did the conservatives improve the lot of the little guy... or the country?  or did they start another war,... and when that finished,... where were the conservatives building the "new" country    "Fit for heroes returning"... did they manage to do that?
NAH  !.... no matter which party you "support".. they never do anything "good" until they are in opposition, .... then they rant about what they  .... " would/could" do when in power...but when in power, they somehow find "reasons/excuses" to keep the status quo blaming the opposition for obstructing the government of the day... no matter that "they" were the opposition doing exactly the same when they were not in power...

Re: HS2 in the slow lane

ahh but at least the tories didn't starve the country of a decent education or privatise everything that could benefit the average joe on the street, labour make a lot of noise about "doing whats right" yet they screwed the country before thatcher and she started to undo  the damage, fair enough she screwed a lot of unionist's and labour heartlands  out of a job but hey ho that's what you get for supporting the side that screwed the country up so much in such a short space of time,
labour works well as an opposition party and they make a lot of noise about how they would fix things given the chance, but realistically every time they have had the chance to improve things they have just screwed the country up even more, we now have a huge amount of under 30's that are so poorly educated by the school system there considered a joke in the workplace, they largely have zero drive worthless qualifications and don't understand the word "no" because it was outlawed on the grounds it "wasn't nice" in schools, university's were under such pressure to give every moron and his dog a degree they created fake courses with an almost zero score pass mark then once the nations feeling happy and soaking up benefits because all the jobs have been given to the immigrants and there encouraged to completely trash their bodies by becoming addicts (extra welfare) suddenly the borrow from the future and spend it today pyramid scam sold to the majority of voters who were too stupid to see past their own wallets and the promised gold collapses somehow its all the fault of "the nasty party" who once again are trying to get things back on track whilst being derailed at every turn by snipy backstabbers who tout such great ideas as "hug a hoody" as a way to get rid of hooliganism, and lets not even go into the long standing joke party who's aims are clearly to continue getting giant pay & pension packages from the EUP whilst professing to despise all things EU (yet magically singing up to everything that's damaging to the nations and refusing anything half way decent...)

the nations rather a joke on all fronts and it will take a long time to put it right, (if ever) but I wont every get a chance as it stumbles like an old soak poured out of a gin palace bouncing from disaster to disaster headed straight for eradication (which is what happens when you have uncontrolled immigration) the worst part is the tories were so scared of people hurting themselves or others they stole everyone's right to bear arms and then the communists took away the right to carry a pocketknife so now we really are defenceless if we abide by the law .....

Are you sure?
British Rail - cheap tickets, travel virtually anywhere... privatised. Now in the hands of the rich, ticket prices are a joke and so is reliability. Why? BR apparently couldn't run their own trains properly.. despite having their hands tied behind their backs by guess who.. THE TORIES!!! Admittedly Thatcher did allow them unprecedented support and financed the chunnel but now look.. BR scrapped by John Major and then David Cameron. Even Blair and Brown left BR alone to sell off old railway land / property but Cameron couldn't be having BR still existing behind his back.. no he had to finish them off permanently so they could never come back.
We're now seeing schools being run privately fo profit. RAF search and rescue has also gone (willie got out quick enough to survive that though didn't he). Royal Mail has gone. Gas board, Telecomes and Leccy all went back in the 80s... British Steel, airways, Petroleum..
Under the tories the NHS is heading into privatisation too because their rich chums are not making enough money and need to sacrifice the poor a bit more!
I think you need to get a firm grip of yourself nano. You don't really seem to be fully aware of whats going on out there. Just in case you want to read more:

Tories not harming the little people eh?

Re: HS2 in the slow lane

indeed as I was already aware it was labour who privatised London transport, schools the NHS and prison services under the much vaunted PFI's, then they PFI'd everything that was left including large chunks of the armed forces, the majority of previously state based jobs and contracted out employment responsibility to groups such as SERCO, had a fire sale of government stakes in the denationalised industries, sold off BNFL  and a whole host of other stuff, destroyed any market regulatory bodies and then formed multiple quango's each with a responsibility to oversee the others and all with a remit to investigate any accusations of wrong doing for parliamentary committee report but without the power to take any action against any offenders directly......
certainly they followed the neoliberal ideas that thatcher had started but they went far further and did things she had neither planned nor attempted yet they had gone ahead like a runaway train and done it all, even to the point of driving the EUP to adopt policies of refusing to allow state owned business and having regulations created to prevent any future UK parliament being able to renationalise any institution or industry or service provider should such a circumstance become necessary whilst retaining EU membership..... but why did they close down all the welfare centers, the respite care centres, the care homes and the institutions for the mentally ill....

the tories have had little option but to continue with the plans put in place by labour and outsource even more of the public services, huge savings had to be made after the fiscal folly enacted under brown and short of sacking a million public sector workers themselves (at huge expense because of the dodgy PFI contracts they were employed under)  or cancelling existing PFI contracts for everything from civic centres and hospitals to schools and power stations (at such enormous expense to the public purse as to bankrupt the country a dozen times over) they had no choice but to follow the path already set.
of course in a few more years the get out clauses will be enacted for some of the more recent PFI contracts and so as promised milipeed the morose gutter snipe that he is knows full well he could undo the privatisation of some stuff yet according to the shadow health minister who was interviewed in the last few days they plan to end underfunding in the NHS with yet more privatisation of services (because that approach has worked so well thus far) and minimally by making further cuts to other areas of the public purse, in particular they would cut both the MOJ and the MOD make deeper cuts to the welfare system, further increase the retirement age and remove the state pension for anyone not yet over the age of 55, now either that bloke is trying to torpedo milipeed or he's actually telling the truth (just like Gordon brown when he announced to the world at large " of course carbon bonds are worthless nonsense but its a money spinner so were sticking with it") and hopes nobody will notice until its too late (i.e. after they get in and start doing all this stuff) no doubt he's also planning on giving the unions back the same powers they enjoyed back in the 70's as has been hinted at by other figures who should be in the know

Re: HS2 in the slow lane

Hey, nanotm...... I refer to my previous post .....
you can rant and rave about the con servatives versus the labour party for as long as you live,,.... but no matter how long your sentences are, without punctuation, the fact remains, that NEITHER party has "improved" the lot of the country or the people, to such an extent that they can claim the right to govern us in the next election.
Sure, some small,..... and I do mean "some"... small improvements have been made in various sectors, by both parties, but usually at the expense of something else being made less good, or worse.
The people who stand for election are,  in effect. over exaggerating their own importance, in the hope that enough people will be duped into voting for them... i.e. giving them a job, with little or no experience, and getting someone else to pay their wages and expenses,  and even less productivity per hour, than an unemployed person looking for work.
They are only in it for their own "self esteem" and a free lunch ... paid for, by YOU and me...
When you see a political party, that stands up and says... we will do this.... this.. and this.. regardless of what the opposition say, and.... those things WILL, and DO, improve the countries economics to the benefit of the whole of society,.... then you can begin to rant and rave about how good they are, and what good they have done for the country ....
until then... just remember/re read my previous post...

Re: HS2 in the slow lane

Doesn't matter who we get in government, they're only in it for themselves, let the people of the nation rule the country, change the way we're governing to a jury-duty style setup and get called up at random to act as an MP for a set period of time, that way you get real people in power, not private school toffs who have no idea what it's like outside of their perfect little world, then we can start using the terms "fair" and "equality" properly...
Of course, that ain't going to happen cos we as a people haven't the nads to stand up and say no, we're happy to blither on about it on the internet, but in reality, nah, it's all eyes to the floor and walk on by ignoring it, meanwhile the nation's assets get sold by whoever's in the centre seat leaving the country to go to the dogs of corporate greed...
That's why we have nothing like the Maglev train, we're cowards, we don't stand up and fight for what is ours, we sit there and take the nonsense, we hope someone else'll fix our problems, and then we end up with nothing, because we deserve nothing, for doing absolutely nothing. We're a nation of millions, we have the power to change everything for the better, but all we do is sit at our computers and type drivel like this, and wonder why we're about as powerful a nation as a grain of sand is versus an entire ocean...
