Guy Fawkes

Tomorrow is Bonfire Night. So what will we all be doing to celebrate?
I have a CT scan in the afternoon so personally I'll be home with a glass of wine Smiley

Re: Guy Fawkes

I'll be the GP's in the morning having an MOT.
I remember family bonfire nights of the 60's and early 70's with baked potatoes, sausages and sparklers Cool
I used to go to the big display they had in Blackheath when I lived in London but haven't been to any locally since moving to East Kent.

Re: Guy Fawkes

Good luck with the CT artmo, I've had 5 of those in the last 1.5 years (no need for fireworks here, i glow in the dark lol).
As for Guy Fawkes,,, someone once said to me that nobody has ever got it right in parliament and even Guy Fawkes cocked it up  Crazy
As for what i'll be doing.. not much i reckon!

Re: Guy Fawkes

Remember, remember!
   The fifth of November,
   The Gunpowder treason and plot;
   I know of no reason
   Why the Gunpowder treason
   Should ever be forgot!

Re: Guy Fawkes

You should have left your full quote up - it was interesting and I'd not seen it before in full length Smiley

Re: Guy Fawkes

Artmo I will easily put it back up. I took it down in case anyone thought it was...well...not good. Anyway for everyone else who didn't catch it here it is.
English Folk Verse (c.1870)
Quote
Remember, remember!
   The fifth of November,
   The Gunpowder treason and plot;
   I know of no reason
   Why the Gunpowder treason
   Should ever be forgot!
   Guy Fawkes and his companions
   Did the scheme contrive,
To blow the King and Parliament
   All up alive.
   Threescore barrels, laid below,
   To prove old England's overthrow.
But, by God's providence, him they catch,
With a dark lantern, lighting a match!
   A stick and a stake
   For King James's sake!
If you won't give me one,
   I'll take two,
   The better for me,
   And the worse for you.
A rope, a rope, to hang the Pope,
A penn'orth of cheese to choke him,
A pint of beer to wash it down,
And a jolly good fire to burn him.
Holloa, boys! holloa, boys! make the bells ring!
Holloa, boys! holloa boys! God save the King!
   Hip, hip, hooor-r-r-ray!

those were the days - huge bonfire out back on the triangle of land behind the terraced houses; everyone outside; setting off bangers in metal pipes, chucking rip-raps around, rockets in milk bottles could go anywhere. And always on 5th November unless it was a Sunday!

@Steve thanks for the Folk verse.
for us bonfire of brushwood i(left overs from logging couple of trees) in the adjacent field. SWMBO's home made Cumberland sausages as hot dogs with onions, french mustard and last of this years lettuce.

And the fun fireworks like Catherine Wheels, Jumping Jacks, Helicopters, the cone shaped Volcanoes, and the hand held wooden handled Roman Candles.
