Great Reads

Don't read as much these days as I once did and that's a pity - I used to devour books at one time.

Current read from a Fathers Day present - and how my daughter knew I fancied this I've no idea, but 'Erabus. The Story of Ship' by Michael Palin, is turning out to be a cracking read just as I knew it would be from past books of his that I have read.

So ten out of ten, and I'm not even a quarter of the way through yet!

Re: Great Reads

You will also like,   (* if you have not already read it )    "Two years before the mast"....  ( you can get it free on your phone via "freebooks".. (i  think that is where I got it ) ...possibly under the "adventure" heading..

Re: Great Reads

@Minivanman   It`s not a Hornblower story...... it is about an american author guy in the late 1800`s who decides to join a "sailing barque". with no knowledge of ships or the sea...

Re: Great Reads

I like the works of :

  • Anton Chekhov
  • Jules Verne
  • H.G. Wells
  • Henrik Ibsen
  • Charles Dickens
  • James Herbert
  • Oscar Wilde
  • Stephen King
  • Terry Pratchett (Discworld)
  • Fyodor Dostoevsky

and many many more. I love reading in fact so much so its verging on an addiction, if it's not already.

Re: Great Reads

And there was me @Anonymous trying hard not to sound pretentious - I know, must try harder Roll_eyes

Tried Pratchett and even though I love SciFi stuff and many just love his books, I could not get into them for some reason. One of my son-in-laws raves about them and has quite a large collection if not all of 'em now.

At my age I tend to stick to the lighter stuff keeping my past heavier tomes just for reference.
