Gravitational waves

Bit too much of a coincidence for my liking.
Within a year of setting up  Ligo detectors 2 black holes are recorded to have collided - about a billion years ago.
Or do black hole collisions happen more frequently?

Re: Gravitational waves

One of those involved said their timing was impeccable.
I hope that was the case.

Re: Gravitational waves

as I understand things they suspected it had happened in the past but didn't have any way to prove it until the new detectors went online, which is why they built them in the first place .
that's not to say they didn't diddle the results to prove the theory but most scientists are rarely such ego maniacs and they prefer to record the resuts accurately and then put out a persona statement /spin as the preface to the report  (which may or maynot bare any relation to the actual findings)
just because your paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you
