Google Maps - very odd loading problem

We were looking up a satellite view location on my better half's PC (running XP) and the friend using it had selected Internet Explorer as that was what they were used to.
The loading rate was absolutely abysmal so I started Firefox and it was back to normal speeds. I can't believe that was the effect of adblock on Firefox so does anyone have any other ideas

Re: Google Maps - very odd loading problem

To clarify
Did adblock on Firefox block a load of rubbish which slowed down Internet Explorer

Wouldn't think so because I wouldn't think Google would advertise

Re: Google Maps - very odd loading problem

I believe Google out right stopped supporting IE9 and earlier. I believe IE8 is the latest version on XP?
Chrome/Firefox will be able to provide extra functionality which IE on XP just can't provide, and it'll be this extra functionality which gives the performance boost.
