Google Chrome Has to be #1 After this.................

My new second hand Sony was delivered this morning... Installed was just Windows 7.
The option to select your browser, so I chose Chrome, 10 minutes later and it has all finished, put in my google account details, enter Google then closes and re-opens...
Upon re-opening I was amazed to see that it is identically set up to my old laptop, everything was there down to the last page I visited last night.
So I thought wonder if Firefox can do that? Can it heck, make a fresh install of Firefox and the only option you get is to copy bookmarks over from Chrome.
Just one ever so slight (No Big) worry is that it also loaded all my username/passwords which means somewhere on Goggles servers are everyone's username's/passwords.  Embarrassed

I tried hard to like chrome. But the EATING of ram and the fact there is no control over the downloads (only one location or you have to select every-time) made it a no-go for me.
I use a combination of downthemall & AutomaticSaveFolder on FF, which lets me sort the downloads automatically.
As for bookmarks I just use xmarks and for p/w's I use LastPass.

Eating of the ram, you forgot the resources it uses, and on my old laptop you could hear it moaning....
Now downloading to one place does make sense... Let suppose you are going to d/l a music, video, flv, binary, zip and a porn file all at the same time. D/l them to a singular location means that can go straight there without multiple windows view or listen to said d/l's if I don't like them bin them or move to appropriate folder.
Any how it's six and two threes  Crazy

Or If I am downloading several torrents, nbz's and a "real" file, I want them to go to my torrent watch folder, my nbz watch folder and my download folder, no need for multiple windows at all.  (I have it setup so that my EEE will pick these up and process them as torrents to transmission and nbz's to sabnzb for handling these processes are NOT running on my main pc only on my low power EEE)
I only WANT to see the real file not the rest.

These sites that do comparison tests... Is bs. I went to 5 the other day and each one contradicted each other, the fact that one recommended IE over the rest just baffles me. but for one site to recommend Safari? Thought lets have a butchers, opening it for the first time I thought I was in Firefox and Chrome at the same time, because the similarity is quite striking. half looks like Chrome and the other Like Firefox.
A browser should be able to jump right into it with out to much setting up, 1/2 hour later gave up and deleted. Cheesy

Obviously not you then! Geordie's apparently use this saying along with six of one, half a dozen of the other, and what about killing 2 birds with stone!

Re: Google Chrome Has to be #1 After this.................

Chrome is Google's trojan horse, you see it is moving to something called "personal search" because it wants to make search results more relevant, you will have seen a few months back they were hammering on about their privacy policy because they are now sharing data across business units.  Google Plus is evolving as an alternative to Facebook and before you laugh it off because of their previous two failed attempts this has a good chance of making headway.  You see Google will show you the things your friends like right there in the search results, Google Plus actually handles circles of friends better than Facebook, it makes it easier.  Also for business they have replaced Google places with Google Plus Local again with more real reviews from people you know.
They are playing the long game with this one and as a professional internet marketer I am impressed with the approach, it will not happen overnight and they are not looking to replace Facebook, just add a social aspect to Search so that they can offer demographically targetted ads.
Chrome helps them because even if you use Bing or Yahoo, they know, they record every site you visit in the famous Google logs.  Even if you configure it to delete cookies and reset to the beginning of time after every session they keep it.  Just do that and run Ccleaner and you will see.what is still there.
I use all browsers because of the nature of my work, Firefox is my main browser, chrome is for SEO work and IE is for work with no footprints.  Firefox is with the right add-on the best browser but not only does it eat memory it does not release it.  So I have to kill it from task manager when it starts getting over 1.6 to 2gb, I then reload it, deselect any tabs I do not want and then restore.
Chrome also sticks the whole program in the users profile which is really bad practice, it makes it bloat up the profile and slows down the PC.

Re: Google Chrome Has to be #1 After this.................

Got to be honest, I think chrome should be outlawed across the planet. Why?
It randomly leaks memory thus swelling to stupid levels like 800MB.
Google also installs an update program called setup.exe that runs when you logon (randomly) that will do the same thing as chrome itself - it'll chew up loads of memory and also drive the CPU up to 100% usage for no apparent reason. Considering google run on webservers that must be very streamlined for database queries etc, they've certainly not done a very good job of streamlining their win32 apps to avoid locking up peoples systems.
You can delete setup.exe and it'll be replaced later down the line making your efforts to manage it useless.
Google provide no answers for this behaviour, no tech support, no patches, nothing. Even Yahoo eventually acknowledge their users bug reports but google don't seem interested in the slightest.
I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!

Re: Google Chrome Has to be #1 After this.................

Hey Sprite, All what you say is true and more, as I spoke to soon or to put it another way since d/l IE9. Was running XP previous but now Windows 7 and although Chromes latest version uses less recourses, CPU and memory, it still has trouble loading first page, in that it takes about 14 seconds, IE9 on the other hand opens and loads home page quicker than it takes me to open lid of laptop, in fact it opens quicker than notepad!!!
Currently I have 2 windows with 9 tabs open between them yet I have a total of 6% CPU and 40% Ram usage that is well below the other top 4 browsers....

Re: Google Chrome Has to be #1 After this.................

With IE you have to remember that 90% of it is built into M$ OS's. So that is why it loads so fast, they only have to load the "shell" the "guts" are already loaded by the OS.
Although the last time I used IE it was like "FTF" where have all these popups/ads appeared from - on pages I view all the time in FF (Using adblock pro), personally I would rather have a slightly longer loading time and less ads/popups.
