Genius level support from Microsoft

Copied from the BBC web site:

"Some customers using Windows 10 have reported difficulties connecting to the internet," said a spokeswoman for Microsoft.

"As a first step, we recommend customers restart their PCs.

"If this does not resolve the problem, visit our website for further support."

Can any one else see the snag in this advice?

Now Zen, but a +Net residue.

Nothing different from having a phone number to report telephone faults.
I must have been really bad in a previous life. This is my 3rd ISP in a row that uses lithium.

No different from PN's phone line message which says you can check this online.
Great when you have NO internet.

Re: Genius level support from Micro$oft

Speculating here, but the thinking behind this might be that if you're able to view the article online, you should be able to view the possible fix online too.

As for the message on our IVR, apologies for those who can't actually get online to troubleshoot. It's an option open to those who might be able to.

I've joined the Plusnet Help Team as of May 2017. As such, I have a new forum account. Please direct any queries to @Gandalf. Thanks

Subject: Third party connection issues - UPDATE

This is an update to the recent posts regarding third party connection issues.

We have been informed that Microsoft have fixed an issue that was causing some Windows 8 & 10 users issues accessing the Internet. You may need to restart your PC to get this update, the advice given is to restart by selecting the Start button from the taskbar, click the Power button and choose Restart, rather than selecting shut down or turning the device off using the power button.

For more information please visit Microsoft's support pages at https://aka.ms/netcom.

Re: Genius level support from Micro$oft

Dunno what all the fuss is about these days considering we all have internet on our phones via the mobile network etc.

There was a time when MS and plusnet could be legitimately ridiculed for their advice but these days its simply not valid.

I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!
