Generic Names

How do you convince an 8 year old boy that the device his mother pushes around the house sucking up dust is not a Hoover but a vacuum cleaner.
I know he doesn't like to argue with his Granddad but on this he's standing his ground.
It's actually a Henry.

Re: Generic Names

Like a good boy he listens to his Mum and she calls it a Hoover.

Re: Generic Names

SWMBO often suggests I do the 'hoovering' - I remind her that I can't as we don't have one Wink

Re: Generic Names

And the point of the topic is that Hoover is a generic name for a vacuum cleaner which undoubtedly pleases Hoover.

Re: Generic Names

Hoover, Upright thing with bag at the rear and rotating brushes... if memory serves me correctly. I was for ever having to change the belt after burning it out by sucking up the edge of the carpet  Grin

Re: Generic Names

Cool You can also Vax the carpet - And Vax was also a brand of computer. Maybe it still is?
Anyway, if the motor is defective, it's a shake-n-vax.
