Gatwick parking

Off to SWMBO's family for a month in August and have looking into getting to the airport by train, bus, coach and taxi.
Usually I only go for a week or 10 days and have used Purple Parking but they want almost £140 whereas First Choice Meet & Greet have quoted £108. Add on around £35 for petrol and it seems a good option.
There's no direct train from where we are and would need to travel up to London and back or two changes via a different route (not a great option considering the luggage we'll be carrying).
Coach is similar in having to go through London and the earliest won't arrive till 2 hours after the flight has left Sad
Taxi is so expensive so we have settled for the convenience of driving there. Has anyone had dealing with First Choice or any other recommendations?

Re: Gatwick parking

Mav, have you considered staying at a Gatwick hotel the night before you travel and leaving your car there?  I do this every time I fly from Gatwick.

Re: Gatwick parking

Just checked and the cheapest hotel + plus parking comes to £167.40 + £20 return transport to South Terminal. Add the petrol and it's nearer £225 Sad

Re: Gatwick parking

What about a neighbour driving you there in your car? - Then your car can be taken back home, left outside (so it still looks like you're at home) and then they can come and get you again. All for the cost of fuel plus a few quid as a thanks. Would that work for you?

Mav, a hotel I've used many times is the Ifield Court.  It's a nice friendly hotel.  Give them a call and see what they quote:

Re: Gatwick parking

@sprite Finding a neighbour young enough to drive is a bit of a problem round here Cheesy
@artmo Had a look at their website and was quoted £209.40. I'll ring tomorrow and see if I can get them to lower it further.

Re: Gatwick parking

No idea what distance you're talking about in miles, I know there's a clue in the £35 of petrol but I don't know what MPG you get (I assume you're allowing for the round trip) but have you had a quote for a taxi?
Don't ask the normal local minicab companies but search for ones that specialise in airport runs, sometimes they are surprisingly reasonable (though the actual distance and travel time will have a significant bearing on this).

You may be able to get a deal from them if you phone.  The owner also has 2 other local hotels and if things are a bit quiet he may do a deal.

Re: Gatwick parking

Rang them this afternoon and they wouldn't lower their rate so it's still around £100 dearer than using First Choice.
Taxis work out at £85 each way, so still expensive.

Re: Gatwick parking

No friends/relations that live anywhere near Gatwick that would look after your car? (You could use a taxi from there to the airport which would be a lot less than a taxi from home)

Re: Gatwick parking

@Mav, one other possibility.  If you don't mind a guesthouse you could try the Da Vinci.  I used it once when the Ifield Court was full.

It's a basic guesthouse but the rooms are clean and well presented.  They provide breakfast in the morning and will arrange a taxi for you to the airport.

Re: Gatwick parking

Street park in south London and have a mini-cab take you to Gatwick.  It's what many south Londoners do. Fare about £35 each way.
Now Zen, but a +Net residue.
