Gardening help - what has been eating my broad beans

Despite a search via Google I haven't found an answer to this
A proportion of my broad bean pods have been partly eaten and it isn't just the ones next to the ground
I did wonder about mice or birds

possibly white fly or slugs...
most of our vegetables were decimated by a combination of the two this year

Re: Gardening help - what has been eating my broad beans

Slugs are always a problem but we have had more than our fair share of them this year due to  more than the usual  amount of wet weather in some parts of the country.
I am normally against spraying  bug killing stuff on any crops that are used  for food even though the label says it is safe to do so, it's too late now but something you may need to consider next year if all else fails.
NB. Despite my objection to food crops being sprayed with various chemicals It is quite likely that most of the food I consume has been sprayed or treated with some form of chemicals at some stage.

Re: Gardening help - what has been eating my broad beans

Just been advised by the expert (SWMBO)  that the bite marks are typical of a squirrel so not much I can do about that as I am not going to bother with the squirrel trap as he seems to have gone away and in any case the beans are nearly finished
Just to add - the only reason I am here is that it is far too hot/humid in the garden and I can't take the heat any more

Reminded me of my dear old Granny. I remember her walking around the garden on warm damp evenings with a large hat pin in her hand.
