Maybe for businesses but do consumers really need that kind of speed?
I'd rather the money spent on a more reliable service with 40/10 speeds which, surely, would be more than enough for the majority of users.
My exchange is due to be upgraded to FTTC at the end of the year. I currently get around 5 to 5.5MB on ADSL2+ which is manageable but the service is flaky at the best of times so I don't give much hope of any great improvement with FTTC.
Improve what we have is what I say.

Re: G-Fast technology

Off topic - well a bit
I passed a nice new fibre cab when going shopping with my better half - she was driving so I could have a good look - I assume it was new because it had a nice new advertising sticker on it.
The reason for posting was that it was really small - much smaller than my present ADSL cab which is relatively tiny - so I wondered just how small they get or more exactly what is the minimum capacity

Re: G-Fast technology

Frankly i still think anything faster than dialup is like magic so even a slow 3G connection is good for me!
All this GB speed talk.. whatever next?  Cheesy
I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!

Oldjim - Something like this?

I've seen references to 128 and 288 line cabinets - Not sure if that's the full range...

Re: G-Fast technology

Looked even smaller than that - perhaps they have created a smaller enclosure as I can't see them going below 128 connections
May be the ECL 128 which appears smaller
Will have a closer look some time when passing

Re: G-Fast technology

depends on whats needed, apparently they have put in 50 line units in some places, perhaps a problem of ordering the wrong stuff or things getting better as they progress the rollout, something about sharing the fibre pipe to fewer lines meaning less cross talk problems and higher throughput speeds for all customers .....
just because your paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you

Re: G-Fast technology

I won't be happy until the amount of copper in my Internet connection approaches zero(and that doesn't mean I'm asking for aluminium phone lines!). Roll eyes

Re: G-Fast technology

And yes that's a 128 although all around me even the 288 Huawei things only have 1 line card in with 31 people on it lol
