From an innocent age!

I was doing a pile of ironing this morning, Mrs P was watching (and I was trying not to) "Gigi" on TCM and it occurred to me that these days the PC censor would not allow several songs from the film; "Thank heaven for little girls" and the slightly over long intro to the title song "Gigi" would be suspect material.
Two other films that would probably fall foul of the PC censor:
"Three men and a baby"
"Three men and a little lady"
Whereas, almost hard-core porn, violence and potty language are seen as quite acceptable viewing.
Sad really...

Re: From an innocent age!

I can't see anything wrong either of the "Three men" titles, I don't see why they couldn't be used today.
However, the "Thank Heavens for little girls songs" isn't about PC, it's that our society has changed, and we cannot now listen to those words in the way they were listened to back when they were written and filmed, today, to the modern era it sounds like a song about Pedophillia.  It's not being PC that would prevent it from happening today, its our changed ear, understanding and listening.

Re: From an innocent age!

@deekay, You did not need to go back to 1957 for the Scenarios, all you need it to go back to is the 1970's.   Smiley  Wink
@artmo, Your right it is political correctness gone mad.

Re: From an innocent age!

Wow! glad I'm not a teenager at school now. Think I was probably involved in most of those scenario's at one time during the 50's and 60's deekay.
Incidentally, I quite enjoyed the Three men... films, as comedies.
Anyway, should be safe now, "My Fair Lady" in on now. Must find some logs to saw, or grease the car's suspension while its on.

Re: From an innocent age!

You make an interesting sub-point gleneagles. In my early twenties (mid 1960's) I had a good pal, who lived near Brighton, I lived at the time in NW London. I would often journey south to his home, he would visit for a weekend of good food good banter and much liquid sustenance. We would always eat in a good restaurants, sustain ourselves in a boozy pub and often end up in a club (when in Brighton) sometimes we would arrive "home" at different times. In London we would often finish the early morning in Soho (Soho was a totally different place then to what it is now) But we were as red-blooded as the next guy's.
We did not attract (as far as I know) any particular attention, no raised eyebrows or knowing winks. My friend was my best-man at my first marriage.
I wonder if we could still do that now without the gossip-mongers making hay.

Re: From an innocent age!

My kids (I’ve no idea why, and it’s certainly not owing to any influence by me…..Mumford & Sons is though  Wink) like to watch the youtube video of ‘Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen’. All I can see is an apparently mid-thirties man with a long lasting obsession with a young girl, enough to allow him to chart the differing aspects of the relationship he has with her during her childhood, who now wishes to move to an amorous relationship with her just one day after she was still 15. Perhaps it’s just me as I can’t stand the track
