I don`t know anything about the French Politicians, party lines, etc... ( almost the same for the U.K. election to come ! ! )..
but I wonder how others think about the new French President Elect.
This report interested me, but also "kinda" worried me too... ( and not because it is in the Daily Mail )...
It is worth a read through... if only to pick out some interesting figures..... such as...
quote..
I absolutely accept Macron won this election. He took 20.6million votes.
But it is an illusion to imagine 20.6 million voted for Macron.
Many voted against Le Pen.
Others pledged support with noses held.
unquote
and these lines.......
quote..
And Le Pen is gaining hard - she won 10.7million votes. (How much longer can the press call a party with 11 million votes 'extreme?')
In truth, she actually came third. 12 million voters abstained
and another 4.2 million did not mark their ballot or spoiled their paper - refusing to vote for either candidate.
Macron's biggest rivals are a right-wing woman with a solid core of 11 million ardent supporters
and over 16 million people who believe in democracy but would rather not vote at all than give Macron a mandate to lead.
unquote
With reference to the last line.... I wonder if that is what will happen in our election on Thursday... i.e. those who do not vote do not want either May or Corbin as leader of the country...
but will probably be a "result" for the conservatives anyway...

What I would really like to know is how they managed to announce the result twenty minutes after the close of the polling stations. It was a paper vote not electronic, so how did they do that? Or maybe they knew before the election started!

I found Macron's (ridiculously) long walk to power amusing and bizarre at the same time.

Macron in France gives me recollections of Tony Blair in the UK.

It would indeed - not least because there was no-one of that name on the ballot paper.

A Machiavellian toy boy in the Élysée Palace, what could possibly go wrong?
I'm no fan of Marine Le Pen but whilst this guy might be good news for the EU but he's bad news for France. Remind me again how many seats Macron and his party have in the National Assembly - yep none, so it's still all to play for in next months parliamentary elections.

If you mean some sort of pseudo Socialist you've got that right but whereas Blair got in as one, Macron got in because he is the more palatable and anyway, there is still the National Assembly elections next month. I'm no fan of the likes of Le Pen as said earlier but it would be utterly foolish to write the lady off given the number of votes her party received.
Bumpy times ahead, time to roll our those 2CV's I reckon

Not even a 2CV can ride out political ineptitude...

Watched the annual VE Celebrations yesterday live on France 24.
Hollande was giving Macron a guiding hand on the shoulder which might prove dangerous
Just thinking about making last ever trip to France 61 years after I first flew to Paris after National Service.
