Freesat tuner/recorder

We;re getting a little fed up with the breakup of the Freeview signal when pressure is high so I'm considering buying a Freesat box with dual tuner and recorder (previous owner of house left a Sky dish with dual signal feed).
Any recommendations? (I've got a box in mind but am interested in what others suggest)

Re: Freesat tuner/recorder

I have the Humax Foxsat HDR.
The advantage of this box is as well as Freesat you can switch to non-freesat mode and tune other stations.
If you have a dual LNB and run 2 cables you can record 2 different programmes or record one and watch another.

Re: Freesat tuner/recorder

That's really helpful that you are all saying Humax - I was looking at their latest model, the Humax HDR-1010S

Re: Freesat tuner/recorder

We Have had a Humax for years, apart from the odd  minor problem caused by updates it has been excellent and we would certainly get another one, it would be useful if they included Wi Fi but the latest model has something that I would find very useful,
'Humax HDR-1000S Connectivity
On the back are two satellite LNB inputs (one for each tuner), HDMI and optical digital audio outputs, an Ethernet port and a second USB port. Scart, composite video and analogue stereo outputs are also provided, useful if you want to make copies of anything you’ve recorded. A Common Interface slot is found on the side.

Re: Freesat tuner/recorder

I have a Fortec Star Passion+ in a cupboard upstairs which failed just out of warranty (the Fortec Star not the cupboard)
I replaced it with the Humax and have been satisfied with it.
I have loaded custom firmware on mine which allows me to access it over my network and configure it amongst other things.

Re: Freesat tuner/recorder

I have a panasonic freesat box which is great, but unfortunately they don't make freesat boxes anymore.

Err... I don't think the Humax HDR-1000S is the latest model! http://www.humaxdirect.co.uk/product.asp?ProdRef=10112

Re: Freesat tuner/recorder

The  only difference between the 1000s and 1010s (apart from it being white) is the inclusion of WiFi in the later

Re: Freesat tuner/recorder

With the cash back offers you can get for Sky, it would cost virtually the same to have the basic Sky package for the year as buying a Freesat HD box with record features.
