Microsoft are said to be about to offer users a free bag of sand to fill up their egg-timer cursors. Apparently the move comes in a bid to cure a bug in the Windows operating system where an empty egg timer appears on the screen for several minutes at a time - hammering productivity. Senior code director Hugh Bortdacrap said; "It was simple oversight. We forgot to put sand in the egg timers giving the appearance that the system had hung. This was a malfunction at the plant where the sand is converted to the glass used in Windows. They have needed to use more sand to toughen the glass as the windows just kept on breaking. After all this there was not enough for the egg timer." In the next revision of the operating system, which is currently in beta testing under the code name 'Vista', coders at Microsoft promise a bigger egg timer with more sand.
