Re: Free Software

Looks to me as though Midi to Wav stuff is fairly common but the other way round means big money.
I'll keep looking though.

Sorry Gary
Nothing that fits your criteria.....well not legal anyway but if I come across anything I'll give you a nod.
edit: Just had a look through a dubious source and again Midi to most anything seems OK but you've got me on a roll now....TTYL

Re: Free Software

Going from .wav or .mp3 to midi is always going to be trickier - the mp3/wav files are digital recordings of sound, whereas the midi file contains the actual instructions to make the sounds.  This is why midi files when played (despite appearing correctly in a score reading program) don't sound quite right as the computer cannot perform like a real person.

Re: Free Software

The only free .wav to midi prgrams I have come across will only let you do about ten seconds of sound so that you can see if they are any good.
To do more you need to pay for the software, and to be honest the samples didn't inspire me into making a purchase.  Sad

Re: Free Software

You're searching for a method of reversing alchemy. You can't turn gold into lead.
What you really need is a pair of ears, a midi keyboard and a midi sequencer.

I refer my honourable friend here but unfortunately Gary is seeking a free
version with full version facilities.
