I cannot see the point in fracking anywhere, the government are planning to reduce the number of appliances using gas due to climate change issues.

Profit before planet @gleneagles
Well done Scotland.
As for appliances, presumably all gas goes down the same pipelines so a fair proportion I guess must go to gas fired power stations in order to produce electricity?

Let's not forget the fun fact that electric heating & hot water in homes & businesses would also be in addition to charging of electric cars, the poor ol' grid is going to be rather overloaded, wouldn't surprise me if one day you could look at the cables between pylons and they'd be glowing red from all the amps they're having to push through...

@twocvbloke It's green electricity. So it knows to ignore the resistance of the cables.
I'd wondered about this as well though. You have to wonder who comes up with these wonderful ideas. The idea that we can power everything with "nice clean electricity" is fine, but we're going to need some nuclear power stations to cover the base load, and a big investment in the distribution infrastructure to get it where it's needed.

What are we missing?

So this is more of a block than a ban, maybe in 50 years when your grandchildren have inherited the earth they will find safer way to extract gas.
EDIT: Maybe a moderator can put in the thread title " blocked " rather than banned. My mistake, apologies!

A very wise man once said to me ' the best I can wish for tree hugging greenies is that they will freeze to death in the dark' - couldn't have said it better myself.

@wotsup Indeed. Problem is the rest of us will freeze with them!
I used to have a sticker the same as the "Stone age" one here

I really do believe that we need to produce enough energy for our own needs.
Renewables are fine.
Up to a point.

Solution to not freezing, plant more trees, for burning later...

The hot air would be useful for local heating, but also I believe that dried out bull excrement burns quite well.
They seem to have an excess of that.
