FrackFree UK petition!

Hi there,
David Cameron claims that fracking could alleviate fuel poverty, but even his friends at Cuadrilla
- the fracking company slated to cash in on the dash for gas - doubt this will be the case.
Add your name to the petition for a #FrackFree UK.
http://bit.ly/1a5zklK
What we do know is that fracking is being used to justify 40 new gas power stations and that
extracting new fossil fuel deposits is likely to make climate change worse.
It will also require tens of thousands of new wells in Lancashire alone, scarring the natural
landscape wherever shale gas is exploited.
According to international experts, we need to keep two-thirds of known fossil fuels in the ground
to avoid runaway climate change – the point in which global warming becomes irreversible.
Rather than scraping the bottom of the fossil fuels barrel and building up costly infrastructure
that will lock us into a high-carbon future for decades to come, we need strong government
investment in clean, renewable energy.
Sign the petition for a #FrackFree UK now!

Thank you,
Lawrence

Re: FrackFree UK petition!

I wouldn't be surprised if fracking hasn't taken on a higher profile because of the worsening relationship with Russia.

Re: FrackFree UK petition!

Wind farms, water generator(s) etc are the way to go,
In years gone by windmills were used to power the heavy grinding wheels etc
There were generators fuelled by rivers (YES(that was powered from water))
Why not re-utilise these old proven methods, in today society, that
1. Did not ruin the landscape
2. Do not use up the fossil fuels
Fracking should be banned, especially more-so since they know it ruins the environment
I know they have modern methods like solar panels etc, & therefore they should be made more affordable to everyone

Would it be fair to say that our energy demands are no greater now than they were 100 years ago and could easily be met by green energy sources?

Re: FrackFree UK petition!

A few facts
Lancashire has a total area of 3,075 sq km so 10.000 wells is one every 0.3 sq km - total rubbish
Well heads for gas from fracking have minimum visual environmental impact after the initial drilling - in Poole harbour area we have one of the largest on shore oil fields in the middle of an area of outstanding natural beauty and it is almost unnoticeable unlike the windmills and solar farms they want to stuff all over the landscape
Fracking uses horizontal drilling techniques as does the oil extraction in Poole Harbour area
Clean renewable intermittent and unreliable green energy which is only viable because of massive subsidies which cost us the consumer money

Re: FrackFree UK petition!

Because no renewables are 24/7 so conventional power stations still have to be built and fired ready for when the wind drop or the sun go behind a cloud.
The number of windmills needed to grind corn is insignificant to the number needed to generate electricity.

This one I had to smile at as rivers that are used for hydro power are normally fed by reservoirs and the building of these destroyed large area of land and the lost of communities.

Think back prior to the reservoirs

Yep, however they were still in use during the making of the reservoirs
@least the horses produce environmental friendly recyclable, fuel / fertiliser etc

Re: FrackFree UK petition!

Note the word Lancashire in the original post.
Seems it's ok to go ahead with fracking in this area but I note that several areas in the south are putting the government under pressure to prevent any fracking there.
Must admit I support fracking and yes I am in Lancashire but much more of the profits should go into the local economy than the 1% that has been offered.
