For us oldies - good, bad, indifferent

http://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/news/16040086.Care_home_criticised_for_organising__inappropriate__p...

A CARE home in Christchurch has defended its decision to provide pole dancing entertainment for its residents.

Fairmile Grange, which is situated in the grounds of Christchurch Hospital, has come under fire for organising the “inappropriate” activity for residents, some of whom have dementia.

But the specialist nursing home, which only opened last year, said both relatives and residents had been requesting “more modern-style activities” and, when given the choice, “welcomed” the pole dancers’ performance.

County Councillor Peter Hall, who represents the ward where Fairmile Grange is based, said he was “absolutely surprised” that this entertainment had taken place.

There is video - not very good -  in the link

Note to the Mods it isn't at all racy

Re: For us oldies - good, bad, indifferent

The majority of elderly people in care homes are women and I doubt many would be interested in watching pole dancing.

On the otherhand everybody has the right to do or see any legal activity irrespective of age or gender, perhaps a more logical approach would be for a organised trip to see this for those who were interested.

Could the council have thought it could raise interests too much? It's not the salacious type of dance, and in any case only memories could be stimulated in most cases.Grin

From Echo comments

Is this yet another reason for Christchurch Borough Council's absorption into the proposed maga council?

I guess times are changing.

Maybe this was more about cheap entertainment for the staff. Or a nurse has an evening job.

Not what I would call an "activity".

Male pole dancers?  Older ladies go rather wild at male stripping events I've heard.

But, if the old folk are pole-dancing, wouldn't their breasts get tangled up with the poles? Funny

Hmmm...It seems @Luzern has a secret pastime, address, phone number, exact location and transport details. Roll_eyes

I recall back in the late 70's or early 80's BR offering the pensioners a day away trip For £1, I'd never realised just how devious they could be...
