For anyone who is paranoid...

Ah, so you chose to read this post. Hmmm....  Smiley
I was reading about a "dark net" used by criminals and perverts to dodge the authorities, so the topic instantly attracted my attention, purely for academic purposes of course.
I came across the Tor Project, it was originally developed by US Navy people to mask their identity when using the internet. You can download a working version to your PC or even a USB stick. You end up with an encrypted browser where it is very difficult to identify your originating IP address. Quite useful for those people who object to being tracked on-line by large corporations, especially those companies who vary the on-line price depending on your location.
It's not really a Dark Net because it mostly uses the public Internet, but even so is quite interest to read around the topic.
Now Zen, but a +Net residue.

This functionality has been available in the Ubuntu packages for years, and has a nice graphical interface called "Vidalia"

@purleigh I discovered that the Tor project does indeed  work with Ubuntu, but on the Tor Project site installation guide they recommend against using the Ubuntu program repositories. Something to do with not being fully updated. I now have Tor running on Ubuntu (Lucid) and also Win7, not all the time of course because the browsing is a bit slow through the Tor Project peers.
I've already found a couple of suppliers who are being two faced about their pricing for UK customers!

Re: For anyone who is paranoid...

Deep down everyone is a bit paranoid. Everyone has little insecurities about something.
