Re: Flying used to be fun...

Re: Flying used to be fun...

Coming back from skiiing only abut 4 years ago as part of a package holiday tour....
Only a few of on the tour bus from the resort were due to go on this particular flight which was the first to go.
We were late thanks to the snow on the roads - very late.....
So we four or so discussed it among ourselves on approach to the airport
What would they do:
1. escort us personally though the airport taking our bags direct to the aircraft hold and basically queue jump everything, holding the flight gate open etc
2 Acccept we were not going to make the flight with all the costs that would involve them at thier cost in re-booking something, overnight stays in hotels etc.
They chose option 1
From the time the coach actually drove up to the airport dropping off point to the time I was sitting in my seat on the aircraft was factionally under 15 minutes.
and a fair amount of that was in finding our bags in the baggagehold of the coach.
The aircraft starting taxing shortly after
'Tis amazing what one can do when one wants to do it.

Re: Flying used to be fun...

But what does that have to do with trains and busses pierre? - I was talking airplanes and you're going off at a tangent talking about trains and busses and expecting it to be treated in the same context.
My point remains: Radicals are less likely to hijack and destroy their own planes. Sure, airports and airport staff will still be a weak point but the passengers on the planes themselves should be carried by their originating countrys airlines IMO.
Trains and busses are different. There are no security checks there at all and thats always going to be a very weak point for any terrorist to strike along with any public place. Those are the risks we have to live with unfortunately but as we've seen terrorists do like to abuse the airliners of the sky for maximum effect and fear impact.

Re: Flying used to be fun...

Yup... it's kinda all screwed up in reality isn't it but thats the way it is.
I used to like flying when I was younger.. I can't be bothered anymore. It's too much hassle.
