Official line is that Coronavirus to blame,  but only last month bailed out by UK government because of its regional connections which other airlines did not serve..

@Anonymous

So am I wrong in thinking it is against EU rules for a government to provide funding for a private company on the grounds it causes unfair competition ?

@gleneagles

So am I wrong in thinking that Flybe was in trouble way before this coronavirus thing took off? So I wonder what caused the problems then...

Re: Flybe - ceased operations

Airlines all over the world are taking massive hits to profit from Covid-19

so no surprise that for an airline that was already struggling the virus

could be the last straw for any potential investors to change their minds.

I guess cruise ship ( AKA floating petri dishes ) companies will be the

next to start hollering, more than one of their ships is at present

being stopped from entering ports and is under quarantine....

Re: Flybe - ceased operations

Flybe’s demise is not down to EU rules on competition. It is partly down to the fall in value of the GBP vs the USD following the 2016 referendum. That is my answer.
I do wish you brexit ideologues would at least accept responsibility for actions.

Not convinced by those offerings to be honest; what they say applies to virtually any company that operates within or with the UK, but from my limited understanding of it it would appear to be down to nothing more than bad management. But what do I know!

I suspect partly that, partly circumstances.

I wondered, how soon it would be, before, a "certain person". turned my thread about an airline going bust... into a personal tirade about his loss of the vote on the U.K.  leaving the Eu. Roll_eyes

Agreed @shutter  we lost one of our troublemakers a few weeks ago when he drove off out of the forums and perhaps he should be followed by another one.
