Five men died yesterday whilst enjoying a day out at Camber Sands, a popular Sussex beach.
Initially it was said that suspicious circumstances were involved but it has now been said all five were simply enjoying a day out when the tragedy occurred.

We are just not 'sea savvy' these days. Too much TV, video games and too many couch potatoes kids?
As children back in the 50s, Camber Sands was well known to many for it's rip tides and as for those sloping shingle beaches into the sea, I can hear my old Dad shouting at us now.

Funny thing is I know camber sands and have been there multiple times. Until this year it's always been a very popular and very safe beach. Car parking there is a total nightmare because it's that popular.
What I don't understand is how it's suddenly become dangerous this year with so many people being killed there. Only a month or two back there were other people killed there in similar circumstances.

Hot day, more people, more ignorance, more drownings. Simples.
To my memory Camber Sands has always been known to be dangerous. Perhaps you were just lucky and/or ill informed?

It has always been a dangerous place and according to the lunchtime news notices are posted warning people.

Too hot, the sea, and probably too much beer.
A deadly combination.

Drinking and diving, not a good idea.

There's no mention of drink being involved.
I assume the Police will make a statement once the facts are known.

Latest report is that they were caught by the incoming tide and presumably were trapped on a sandbar

Indeed not @artmo but would you put money on it that there was not?
Beer, beach and sunshine are a common enough combination. First check on a road accident, breath test. First test on any autopsy? We'll see, but sad and tragic all the same.
How often when to assume the worst it turns out to be true.

I've never once seen notices about it. One of the local councillors was on the news today saying the total opposite - that Camber Sands is a safe beach. The water along it however...

I've never once heard anyone say it is dangerous there.
As for being ill informed, that seems to be your speciality just lately.

Good point. I have amended that post to avoid confusion.
