Fill out or Fill in?

Do you fill out a form or fill in a form?
Personally I fill in a form as there is a lot less space on the form after I've filled it in.
You wouldn't fill out a hole in the road.

Re: Fill out or Fill in?

I do believe... Fill in a form is the noun and fill out a form is the verb....
One is asked to fill in a form, and you will fill out the form!

Re: Fill out or Fill in?

I've always said 'fill in' forms but 'fill out' questionaires.
Not exactly sure of my reasoning behind it, though Undecided

Re: Fill out or Fill in?

I always thought that 'fill in' is British usage and 'fill out' is American.
I think this was true until 5 or 10 years ago, but 'fill out' is appearing a lot in British language these days. I blame t'web meself.

Re: Fill out or Fill in?

Its altogether easier to "complete" a form. Then its "completed"
Experience; is something you gain, just after you needed it most.

When faced with two choices, simply toss a coin. It works not because it settles the question for you. But because in that brief moment while the coin is in the air. You suddenly know what you are hoping for.
