Favourite Television Detectives

This is unashamedly taken from ITV3 - thought it would be fun to compare their results with ours.
Title says it all so just vote and would be good to know why you like the particular characters.
Predictably my vote has to go for Miss Marple as she 'flies the flag' so to speak for older ladies.
There is a lot to choose from and have not included some well-loved detectives.  One that is not in the list but have really enjoyed is Cadfael played by Derek Jacobi.  Didn't include him here as there were so few programmes made. Can you think of any others that I have missed?

Tsk. How could you forget Regan and Carter of The Sweeney (without Jack Regan there would've been no Gene Hunt.....)  Grin

Re: Favourite Television Detectives

Well, they have got Rebus.  I did think of Taggart but I thought that 11 was quite a lot to begin with.  Also, Taggart is just a name now as the original is now sadly deceased.
Maybe later we could do another poll, picking out our three favourites from this list plus the ones that I have forgotten.
'The creep' is Boyd - Waking the Dead.
I ought to have known that no matter how many I included you lot would have thought of summat different!    Grin

Re: Favourite Television Detectives

Nope sorry! without doubt the best TV detective was DS Albert Chisolm from Minder ably assisted by "Taff" Jones. Brilliantly portrayed.
Experience; is something you gain, just after you needed it most.

When faced with two choices, simply toss a coin. It works not because it settles the question for you. But because in that brief moment while the coin is in the air. You suddenly know what you are hoping for.

Re: Favourite Television Detectives

Has to be Columbo for me. I just love the style and crazy logic of his investigating.
Edit: Although I have voted for Morse as the UK equivalent of Columbo.
