Fancy some local Skiing Sunday / Monday ? Snow and Minus 8ºC

First Loads of Snow.....
A hearty Breakfast Sunday Morning, then a wander around the Hills, clear Blue Sunny Sky.
Then down the Ski Slope to minus 8ºC overnight...
Sunday Night / Monday Morning, Nr Buxton, Derbyshire
Should be exhilarating...

Re: Fancy some local Skiing Sunday / Monday ?

In light of the expected minus 8ºC overnight Sunday, I came up with this to stop the Wheelie Bins Lids Freezing Shut, as happened a few night ago.

Electrocute the bin men?
Weld the lid shut to prevent it freezing?
Interior lighting in the bin so you can sit inside and check the temperature?
Now Zen, but a +Net residue.

This will quickly sort out a wheelie bin lid that's frozen.

Re: Fancy some local Skiing Sunday / Monday ? Snow and Minus 8ºC

Saturday afternoon..... loads of Snow, into early evening, then stayed all through the night.
Sunday morning, minus 3ºC overnight...
The wheelie bin lids I hadn't added the spacer to were all frozen shut !!
The other two active ones were OK, but with a heavy layer of Snow on top.
Tonight is the Big One !
National News Weather, apparently it's going to be the coldest night for ages tonight .

Snake Pass ( near us) closed because of abandoned cars
Holme Moss also remains closed because of snow.

The Snake Pass is the name given to the remote, higher reaches of the A57 road where it crosses the Peak District between Manchester and Sheffield in Northern England

Here it was a frosty car at 7pm.
But all gone by 11pm.

Re: Fancy some local Skiing Sunday / Monday ? Snow and Minus 8ºC

I'm disappointed !
It only went down to minus 6ºC last night, not the minus 8ºC forecast.

Regarding cars, quite some time ago, in fact many years ago in my inexperienced youth, I washed my car on a bright, sunny day Wintertime.
The next morning I couldn't get into the car, the water from washing had frozen all the door seals to the door frames.
De-icer made no difference.
No remote central locking in those days, door locks also iced up.
Of course, a bright sunny day meant no cloud cover overnight, a lesson learnt.
In the end, I managed to get the Estate Car rear door open, and gained access, though crawling over seats was not much fun.
Then just sitting until the car heater helped de-ice the door seals.
I think car door seals are better protected by design these days.

Before setting out this morning I started the Cars, no problems at all.
Just a bit tricky on untreated roads, even in the 4WD Grand Cherokee.
Slow, Slow, not Quick, Slow.
Saw a few abandoned cars on minor roads.
Snake Pass still not suitable for non 4WD vehicles.

Pavements are like glass, have been for days. It annoys me so much as we have quite a few elderly people around these parts one who is 97 years old ( give or take  Lips are sealed  ) but they don't treat the pavements where pedestrians walk on a daily basis!!

Re: Fancy some local Skiing Sunday / Monday ? Snow and Minus 8ºC

It wasn't quite so cold last night, only minus 4ºC, but we did have quite a heavy Snowstorm
Horizontal Snow !!
And lots of banging & crashing outside.
Fearing the worst, we had a good look round this morning, but the only damage we could see, was to an old Barn, mostly disused, storing agricultural machinery, including an old Tractor.
There is no glass in the small openings, just original shutters, one of which had been blown off, and smashed on the ground.
It was a bit decrepit, nearly 100 years old the Gardener tells me.
He will get it replaced, if nothing else to prevent Snow ingress into the Barn.
I actually told him to replace the lot, as a new one would stick out like a sore thumb, and if one was on its' way out, the other shutters were probably too.....
They do look a bit the worse for wear..

Also, some of the corrugated roof panels are a bit loose, though thankfully non blown around.

Anyway, another glorious sunny day, blue sky with a few clouds.... so it looks like another cold night.
