Executions halted because the condemned man died....huh?

A poorly written article, from America, about a 'botched' lethal injection.
Later in the article... "Somebody died because of the state's incompetency," Dieter says,...
I thought that was the point?Huh

Yeah, but......
He did not die as a result of the lethal drugs,, (apparently)... his cause of death in the article was a heart attack....
I suspect the drugs should have worked much quicker after the injection time... apparently he was still alive 16 minutes aftet injection...... and that is what the furore is about...

Cant really see the problem, maybe the US need to try & few more death row inmates out as an experiment & see if they also suffer in the same way.

Quote
Lockett, who was convicted of shooting 19-year-old Stephanie Neiman and watching two accomplices bury her alive in 1999, was pronounced dead in the execution chamber at 7:06 p.m. CT.
The execution began at 6:23 p.m., and he was unconscious 10 minutes later. His death came 43 minutes after the drugs began flowing.

My heart bleeds for him.

Re: Executions halted because the condemned man died....huh?

This was all over the news channels here last night as breaking news.
One of the drugs injected used to be supplied by a company in the UK but after pressure they refused to supply it any more for death sentences. States had to find an alternative. It is not known the exact problem last night until an autopsy is carried out.
Some States using the death sentence are considering other forms of death such as a return to the electric chair.

From what I understood on the news this morning he didn't get the full dose because of a 'reaction' to it so it was halted and he died later of a heart attack.

I read that there was a problem with one of his veins.

But there is a problem, everyone and his dog who are against capital punishment will use this as an example of why it should be banned.
Odd how the USA allows some states to have the death penalty and not others ?

Not really.... each of the "States" is a "country" within the UNITED states of America !... a bit like Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland,& England, belonging to the United (states) Kingdom... or the UK and other European countries, belonging to the United (states) of Europe...  hence the President of the UNITED STATES giving his yearly summing up of...... " The STATE of the UNION"....

I would welcome both capital & corporal punishments, providing there is hard evidence the the perpetrator is 100% guilty

It's not the national government that decides. Each State votes on such matters and decides if they will have capital punishment.
here's a list of each State's position on 3capital punishment:
