Eurovision Shout Contest

What is it about this appalling drivel that makes it so unmissable?
Experience; is something you gain, just after you needed it most.

When faced with two choices, simply toss a coin. It works not because it settles the question for you. But because in that brief moment while the coin is in the air. You suddenly know what you are hoping for.

Graham Norton is giving it a good try though.

Re: Eurovision Shout Contest

He's no match for Wogan.
Have watched it every year since the early 70's. It's no longer about the music - that's for sure.
UK entry this year was rubbish but I didn't think we deserved to be last Cry

Re: Eurovision Shout Contest

Pretty poor UK song; third quartile quality. Politics put it last, but so what.
Turkey got my vote, thought Germany was a bit naff really.

Re: Eurovision Shout Contest

I watched bits of the programme throughout the night.  I didn't hear a decent song.  The voting is more political than musical. Norton is also a poor host.  He tried to do a Wogan and failed hopelessly Embarrassed

Re: Eurovision Shout Contest

The short bit I listened to made me think all the songs sounded the same!

Re: Eurovision Shout Contest

The French entry ( also World Cup song) was nearer the old " boom, banga bang" Eurovision style.
Quite agree that Norton can't match the sarcasm that Wogan had honed to perfection over the years.

Re: Eurovision Shout Contest

Last time I watched Eurovision was when The Allisons (UK Entry) came second, some how managed to miss it since.
Cannot remember but don't think it was Terry Wogan.

Re: Eurovision Shout Contest

The first contest was held in Lugano, Switzerland 24th May 1956.
UK did not enter and the Swiss won.
The UK, having only won 5 times, have hosted the contest 9 times. In 1960 London hosted the contest as the Dutch did not want to host for a second time (having won in 1957). In 1974 the contest was held in Brighton as Luxembourg could not afford the costs.
UK also hosted in 1963 (London, France declined due to cost ) 1972 (Edinburgh, Monaco couldn't provide a suitable venue).
Although UK came joint first in 1969 the Dutch hosted in 1970 being one of the other joint winners.
Ireland have won the contest 7 times (1970, 1980, 1987, 1992, 1993, 1994 & 1996)
