Re: Euromess

There's a good argument that it's a Eurozone mess, and they should clean it up.  If the US was having problems with the dollar, would we give them lots of money to help them sort it out?  Roll eyes and you can't blame a political leader for saying, "there's no benefit to us, so we won't take part"
Having said that, it's not an attitude that would be applauded in any other sphere.  Would you want to live in a society where its members said they'd only help the poor and homeless, if there was something in it for them?
I'm ambivilant about Europe and the whole European experiment, but  I've heard it said (by someone of German extraction) that the Germans tried twice to take over Europe by force and failed, so now their doing it by other means, but the objective is the same.

Re: Euromess

The outcome as of today smells very strongly as having been totally "staged" so that all the main parties could take back the messages they wanted/needed to to their own domestic audiences.  Roll eyes

Re: Euromess

Are you suggesting that the French will take this opportunity to blame the whole debacle on perfidious Albion - shame on you  Grin

Re: Euromess

I think its all codswallop anyway. It's all about protecting the rich. As long as the rich are catered for everyone else can go screw themselves.
When are they going to realise that there is more to life than sitting at  computer screen watching £/€ signs and trying to make a few fast quid at someone elses expense?

Re: Euromess

I've heard a rumour that David Cameron will be performing our entry with a satirical version of the song "Non, je ne regrette rien"  Cool

Re: Euromess

The best quote I've heard was attributed to a French politician.  Apparently he said that David Cameron /the UK was like a man who agreed to go to a wife swapping party, but refused to take his wife - Only the French eh!   Grin

Re: Euromess

One huge step toward a Federal Europe governed by an unaccountable elite, sadly this still leaves the Euro in intensive care with a 50% chance of surviving. Let them join sterling when they are ready. No one believes Club Med countries will stick to the "rules".
Like the old newspaper 1940's headline: "Fog in Channel; Continent cut off."
Now Zen, but a +Net residue.

How can that be artmo? - All they've done is dig us into a load of debt. I fail to see how that is doing anyone in this country any good at the moment.
