Etiquette Advice needed please

Our famous wee village has been invited to  meet the senior citizens of our twiinned village in france.
Knowing what you have read here about the antics of madge dot pot willie etc etc  ,can anyone advise on what to avoid to preserve intervillage harmony. Have the french any pecularities we need to be aware of?

Re: Etiquette Advice needed please

You need to make sure you have the correct "approach angle" when doing the "kiss , kiss" greeting.... if you get it wrong, you could end up giving a full on lip kiss! ! !..
A custom I observed whilst in Mauritius, (which has a very strong French connection, in language and culture, from the past),   is that a "handshake" of the conventional style, (not the high five and twist your wrist off type) is an indication of friendship, and trust. I noticed this happens EVERYTIME friends meet.... not just the initial intro..
You could also learn to play Petanque.... !...
this may help .....

You mean apart from being French  Crazy
Having spent many holidays in a French village in the Vendee you'll find the elderly French are very polite and I've always found them friendly. You may find kissing a chap on the cheek a little strange but " c'est la vie"

Lost count of the number of times I've been to France, since 1956, and I've never seen a French person eat grenouille  Smiley
There's a thought - with all the McDonalds, in France, do they do a grenouille burger.
I suppose you could have a snail hunt, in your gardens, and serve them with garlic butter  Cool
Have you thought of serving them haggis and telling them it's a wee timorous beastie that's regarded as a local delicacy  Smiley

Do mention that we named a major railway station after a French village though.  Grin

Could mention the battle of Baugé.
I gather the modern Scot greets his Gallic comrades with "Bonjourrr, yah cheese-eatin' surrender monkeys!", possibly spelt out in bunting.

Re: Etiquette Advice needed please

When I was doing 'A' level French, back in 1951, I was looking through a dictionary and found a section on " French you shouldn't use in polite company"
Funny how certain expressions have stuck in my mind and come in useful over the years.  Smiley

Were I to post the English translations the swear filter would go ballistic and your twinning might end  Wink
If I post in French Google will give translations and I'll get banned Embarrassed
