Quote "Eric Sykes, 89, star of TV, stage and films, died peacefully this morning after a short illness," said Norma Farnes. "His family were with him."
Quote Born in Oldham, Sykes started his career writing radio material for comedians including Frankie Howerd, Tony Hancock and The Goon Show.
Sad. I used to particularly like Sykes with Hattie Jacques.
Some of the contemporary comedians could do with looking at some of the masters such as Eric Sykes for inspiration.

Not many good comedians left now although Ken Dodd is still going strong.
I Simply fail to understand most of the younger comedians today, a number seem to find it amusing to make jokes about the disabled or other groups who cannot answer back, their so called jokes are often littered with four letter words to add effect.
Lucky we still have films and other recordings from years ago.
Anyone remember Tony Hancock ? one of the all time greats in my opinion.

Have "The Plank" but there was another silent "similar" film, I think it was called "The Move" which was even better, had it on VHS but accidentally erased it

Edit: correction, its called "Its Your Move" brilliant.
When faced with two choices, simply toss a coin. It works not because it settles the question for you. But because in that brief moment while the coin is in the air. You suddenly know what you are hoping for.

When he asked a publisher "what would happen if he sold all the copies of my book he'd printed"
Publisher "I'll just print another 10" copies"
Or "I had lunch with a chess champion the other day. I knew he was a chess champion because it took him 20 minutes to pass the salt".
RIP Eric
