Electricity & Gas to Increase

I've just read that E.ON is cancelling its discounts on gas and electricity for the over 60s.  Looks like I will be looking around for a better deal when I return home in a few weeks.

Re: Electricity & Gas to Increase

Yeah..... that is just typical of these big companies......
"Here..... Look, you morons..... here is a bag of goodies.... sign up and you get them..... "....
then when they have enough morons.... they  take the goodies away... Shocked

CON MERCHANTS ALL......
. trouble is..... we can`t do without them.... just change the con merchant as soon and as often as they pull the plug... do the same to them....

Re: Electricity & Gas to Increase

I don't know if it just affects the 'stay warm' tariff or not.  My tariff is one arranged by Age UK and I know others on the forums are on the same tariff.  with the large number of people signed up to this deal maybe Age UK would have a good bargaining position with another supplier.

Re: Electricity & Gas to Increase

Npower are:
Removing my end-of-year direct Debit discount and spreading it across the year.
Removing my end-of-year Dual Fuel discount and spreading it across the year.
Increasing my Electricity Standing Charge.
Reducing my Electricity Unit Rate.
Just to complicate things even further I very recently used the services of uSwitch to change my tariff and I'm waiting for confirmation and details from Npower.

Re: Electricity & Gas to Increase

i believe they are stopping a lot of it on the back of only being allowed to have 4 tariffs  as part of cameron's making things clearer.
all it does is penalise those of us who could be bothered to do a bit of math and find the best deal for ourselves Sad

LOL, that's why they're cancelling the discounts NOW - they're trying to tell you something  Wink
I'm sure it's nothing personal.

Don't panic as Age UK accounts aren't affected and one can still get a new one year fixed price contract  Smiley
Edit - just checking Age UK account terms and looks as if new accounts don't get cold weather payment.

Re: Electricity & Gas to Increase

I've switched to https://www.cooperativeenergy.coop/ Not the absolute cheapest but they have a simple single tariff and you don't need to keep monitoring their offerings to see if you need to change tariff.

We won’t try to be the cheapest with short-term, unsustainable price promotions.
Instead, we will aim to be consistently competitive for the long-term.
If we have to raise our prices, we’ll inform you at least 30 days in advance.
We won’t ever favour new customers over existing with cheaper prices, because we don’t

Others could learn from this.  Hope PN staff are paying attention.  Wink
I'll be looking into this supplier when my current contract runs out.

I'm still wondering what happened there. When I first joined plusnet (and jumped to broadband) they were head and shoulders above others for value, and according to many also in customer care.
Now most seem to be lower priced and better value with satisfied customers. Even Tesco are cheaper.
How can that be? They should be getting first crack at the lowest BT wholesale prices.

Re: Electricity & Gas to Increase

It would be anticompetitive for PN to receive favourable price advantage from BT.
