Re: Election Result - your comments please !

They are all piling into Corbyn to blame him as an easy answer to their abject failure, but it is Labours attitude to brexit which has caused this bloodbath.... 60% of Labour voters voted to leave the EU in 2016 and they have been completely let down by Labour who have had their party membership hijacked by metro-centric remainers.. As for sturgeon the SNP got less than 50% of the vote in Scotland, and they will be leaving EU with rest of UK before 31 January 2020.

Re: Election Result - your comments please !

My one and only comment- I saw this coming, the only welcome surprise (to me, as one who voted 'No' to our entry into the original EEC(?)), is the size of the majority.

Re: Election Result - your comments please !

I have heard several times this morning that it's not momentums let's saddle future generations with hundreds of billions of debt policy, but Brexit that's caused this result. The other factor conveniently forgotten by these peuple is the effect of the Tory manifesto The bit that sticks in my mind from 2017 was much publicity about increasing living costs, especially for social care, in a generally downbeat document.

Back to hearing about the latest "celebs" shenanigans in the news.

Probably not. Instead it will be little snippets about the domino effect across the EU and the fact that their leaders failed to convince us that they walk on water.

Re: Election Result - your comments please !

Must admit i thought parliament was gonna get left hanging this time but clearly the nation prefers Boris despite all the accusations thrown around about him lying, deceiving etc. I'd say he's one of the few MPs that is (or at least pretends to be) in tune with the voters.

Just hope he doesn't carry on the typical tory crusade against the vulnerable.

Re: Election Result - your comments please !

I'm saddened by the result, seeing that people have believed the tory rubbish spouted by them and ignored all the smear campaigns they have made and lies they've told, along with fake promises to restore certain things that they themselves cut back on or shut down...

The nation is screwed, and we're all sinking into this brown creek without a paddle together, willingly or not...

Re: Election Result - your comments please !

We shall have to see, if and how BJ modifies his rhetoric and modus operandi now he has that whopping majority of seats.

The BEEB team last night were hinting he may be more pragmatic ( that was before I decided to sleep, so my glass slipper didn't  shatter). Are the new intake more or less extreme.

ISTM that the published swing to the Cons hides some facts, of which some are not to the trumpeteers' taste. In several constituencies, i am familiar with through life, the Cons actually lost vote share too, the gainers were Lib Dems and Greens.

'Sfunny old nation!

No one has to agree with my opinion, but in the time I have left a miracle would be nice.

It's easy to say that though isn't it. Boris has been making noises about big changes for the better for ages but his own party has repeatedly tied his hands behind his back quite deliberately.

Now he's risen from the ashes as their most powerful leader for decades. Nobody in his party dares cross him now and he's basically free to do what he wants. Hopefully that will be for the better now he isn't being crippled by everyone.

I have more faith in Boris than Corbyn who'd quite happily resurrect Hitler.

Re: Election Result - your comments please !

what I find interesting is that TM actually lost seats at the GE despite Corbyn yet Boris wins a big majority despite some claiming that his deal is worse than what TM proposed.

As stated under another topic voters are not all stupid and saw through the promises made by Corbyn knowing the money would not be there to implement them, I accept some promises made by Johnson will not be kept either...such is the game of politics and we are the pawns.

One lesson I hope politicians have learned is that they cannot disregard the will of the people and with a new bunch in power and many of the old guard gone we might just see a new dawn in politics

Re: Election Result - your comments please !

@Champnet

Blair killed Socialism, what people did not want was a Hamas loving IRA sympathising Marxist in number ten.

The naysays now need to button it. The referendum voted to leave, this election endorsed that decision and although it might not be the sort of clear cut Brexit that people wanted, as Farage said this morning, 'half a loaf is better than none' - and ain't' that the truth.

Let battle commence, and let's finish this Brexit business once and for all.

Re: Election Result - your comments please !

I'm in Spain for a few weeks and the news has gone down very well here. Expats and other EU citizens welcome the fact that something will get done at last. We have to remember though that the end of January will only be confirming the UK will leave. We then have to start negotiating the terms of our future relationship with the EU. I think this may be a little more difficult than some think.

Re: Election Result - your comments please !

We really do need a proper PR system; the SNP got some 1.2 mill. votes and ended up with 48 MPs while The Brexit Party got over half that number of votes but not a single MP.  That hardly reflects the 'mood' of the electorate.
