Easter Eggs renamed?????

Easter Eggs renamedHuh??
I would like to say "Only in America", though I can't help but wonder till this sort of stupidity is echoed over here...
School renames Easter Eggs "Spring Spheres"

I had to double check to make sure this wasn't a belated April fools joke, but it seems to be genuine.
I mean, I know that the Govt and public bodies on that side of the pond are not allowed to "promote" any particular religion, but they do know that Easter was in fact Pagan in origin don't they and not Christian?

Like Christmas too, indeed all our main festivals are Pagan in origin which the Christian church adopted.
But lets just suppose Easter is a bad bad bad word.  I'm not sure what Egg did to be rated as such, I could almost get my mind around Spring Eggs.

Re: Easter Eggs renamed?????

I assume that 'Eggs' has changed to 'Sphere' to continue the alliteration. I agree totally that it's pretty daft and I'm sure we'll continue to call them easter Eggs

Re: Easter Eggs renamed?????

Balls!
(You can take that either as a suggestion of an alternative to spheres, or as a comment - I'm not saying which was intended)

Re: Easter Eggs renamed?????

Except of course they're not (either balls or spheres) their ovoids, but I suppose you can't expect an American (or for that matter most British people these days) to have a vocabulary large enough to encompass that word.  Undecided

A wonder that mini chocolate oranges have not been created for this market.

Fortunately not everywhere here in the US.  I've seen stores and supermarkets selling them here in Florida and clearly referring to them as Easter Eggs Smiley

Re: Easter Eggs renamed?????

In the southern hemisphere they would have to be called something else -  autumnal ovoids perhaps?
