Driving License

I recently heard that an acquaintance of mine had sold their car.
Apparently they had been caught driving on a provisional license........after 30 years Shocked
I didn't think this was possible with everything being computerised

Re: Driving License

I suppose that unless one is pulled there's no way of anyone knowing.
I did think that there was a limit on number of provisionals.
Hope person got really punished as they would be driving uninsured.
Easy to check in vehicle online but ......

Re: Driving License

Reminded me that I was going to check when the old paper license was being phased out in favour of photo licenses. Did not realise this was happening.

There's no checks on the license to get insurance and/or road tax so I assume it can be quite easy to make false declarations.
Also, no checks on your license when you buy a car.

Re: Driving License

To get a car taxed you have to have insurance so you would have to lie to an insurer which as Nadger said would make it invalid.  It seems a lot of trouble to go to for such a long time.

Expire when you reach 70, so not happy having to pay to renew earlier.

When my paper licence expired recently I was told I had to get a photo ID licence. In addition to the photo ID licence they also send you a paper  one as well.

I still used mine until I had to have 3 year photo licence for free on my 70th birthday.

Re: Driving License

She has a PROVISIONAL paper one which is why I asked, I had to get a photo one when I passed my bike test, and will have to renew it soon - WASTE OF MONEY!

Some people over 70 will also still have an old paper licence. They would have got one if they renewed their licence before the photo ID ones started.
Edit:  Just thought about this and all people over 70 will have the new licence. They have been around for more than 3 years so will already have taken over from the paper ones.
