Double summer time

There are proposals to add two hours to GMT instead of just one to "help the UK tourist industry" which look like they might succeed this time round. Has anyone seen any details of this? Does it also mean that winter will also be one hour ahead of GMT?

Re: Double summer time

They can turn night into day and day into night as long as they let me know what's what Undecided (I'm a bit fed up with all this messing with the clocks TBH) but I haven't heard about this one...yet.

Re: Double summer time

Its a Stupid Con/Dem Woman from South Essex promoting it
After all we are the International date line and she wants us to align with Europe, they are calling it double, but I think they want to move it one hour to align with bits of Europe, After all Portugal is on GMT

Re: Double summer time

I'm all in favour of double summer as opposed to the double winter we usually seem to get Roll eyes

Re: Double summer time

I'd be happy if we didn't 'change the clocks', but 'changed the hours'.
(Example could be schools starting at 09:00 in winter and 08:00 in summer, each region deciding its own hours)

Re: Double summer time

I seem to remember that it was tried back in the 70s (?) but abandoned fairly quickly. Can't remember why - life was a haze around then!  Grin

Re: Double summer time

The plan is as usual held up by the wonderful Scots (no irony intended, lovely people) If the proposed change is so important to Scottish hill farmers, then why can't Scotland have its own time zone? they go their own way in many other issues (health and further education as two examples) these work in numerous other parts of the world (the US for one) without much problem.

Certainly was! And I think there might have been a touch of yellow, red and green about too.

Re: Double summer time

Being retired I don't get up that early so lighter evenings would be nice Smiley
I can, however, accept that it could cause problems for the hairy folk north of Hadrian's Wall.
On our short trips to Europe I never bother resetting my watch so that argument doesn't affect me.

Re: Double summer time

Scrap the idea.
Scrap BST.
Give us lighter mornings and darker evenings is what I say.
Can somebody give me a real benefit of driving to work in the dark in the mornings for longer and cooking my tea (inside in a kitchen with very little natural light) in the lighter evenings?
No - it's a stupid stupid stupid stupid idea (and I'm down in Berkshire)
