Don't the BBC have proof readers?

I'm just watching the BBC News channel with live coverage of the 1st World War Remembrance ceremonies.
There are captions on the bottom of the screen and we noticed...
' Over 9 million soliders killed' and 'sevice of remembrance'

If it's live then there wouldn't be enough time to proof read Undecided

I guess you're right Sad
Maybe if they spent less on dinner jackets and bow ties and invested in a spell checker on the caption writer then..... Wink

Re: Don't the BBC have proof readers?

A spell-checker would slow them down having to correct any mistakes. And wouldn't even think about predictive text Cheesy

Re: Don't the BBC have proof readers?

These weren't scrolling texts or subtitles but static blocks of text on screen for 30 seconds.
They could easily have been checked but maybe the writer is dyslexic (no offence intended).

Re: Don't the BBC have proof readers?

I vaguely remember the newer live subtitles being computer generated from voice recognition software as well as intermixed with manually input subtitles for pre-recorded items.
Youtube also generates subtitles on the fly for some of its videos so you can get similar mess ups with those as well.

Proof readers at the BBC? Have you never regularly read BBC news website articles? In any one I read it is a miracle if there isn't a mistake.
