Don't call me babe!

Is it acceptable to call someone 'babe'?
Quote
Eric Morecambe called his guests "sunshine", Coronation Street's Vera Duckworth used to call anyone and everyone "chuck" - but bus drivers in Brighton are being asked to think twice before they refer to passengers as "babe", "love" or "darling".

Quote
"I think the best way to deal with being called 'love' or 'babe' if you didn't like it, would be to say something humorous to get the message across - something like 'thanks stud muffin'."

Stud muffin' - never heard of that one - sounds like it's meant as an insult but comes across as a compliment Cheesy

@Oldjim Ah, yes I remember it well (in his best Maurice Chevalier voice) - had just turned 18 then! Smiley

Well I find 'sir' impolite too. It's impersonal, unfriendly and puts distance between you and the other person.
I hope that is also ruled out  Crazy

Re: Don't call me babe!

Sometimes that distance is needed to maintain the correct relationship depending on the circumstances.
Dislike when I give my full name to some company representative and they ask is it alright if they call me by my first name. No it's not alright - have you heard that familiarity breeds contempt Wink
