Don't believe the press - especially the Daily Mail !

Don't believe the press - especially the Daily Mail ! and quite often the BBC
They are now saying that Prince William has just been awarded his RAF Wings ! !
I thought that was over a year ago at Cranwell
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/7339475.stm
Now The Mail is saying has been awarded them again
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1243336/Prince-William-awarded-wings.html
But although his instructor is reported as saying he would never be an operational pilot - he is now training to be a front line RAF Sea King Search and rescue pilot - and they are every bit as skilled as other RAF pilots and fly in horrendous weather - doing risky rescues as many here might see on some of the TV programmes.
You only get your wings once - usually on  a training aircraft and then go on your first operational aircraft.
All the Mail had to do was look at the Royal Family web site:

I think you may be confusing a comic with a newspaper.  Crazy

Crazy Cool
Yes quite.
I actually wish there was a light hearted newspaper, that didn't have a big political agenda.
I read a selection of the heavies Scotsman, Telegraph, Guardian, Independant, Courier ( DC Thomson of Dundee ).
Most just have lots of journalists just peddling their own ideas.
There must be a good market for a middle of the road paper with good spread of news - good photographs, etc etc - but that doesn't try to peddle their own political agenda.
O yes - has well informed journalists that actually know their subjects.......
but no doubt the pigs will fly first.

He already had his wings. Now that he has qualified as a helicopter pilot I assume he has gained his blades.

It was his expressed ambition to become a search and rescue helicopter pilot - he would never be allowed, as his uncle was, to fly helicopters in a war zone.

Re: Don't believe the press - especially the Daily Mail !

well they too got it wrong - he's had his wings for a year or so.
He's got the next stage - qualified on helicopters - next stage conversion to the Sea King and SAR duties - then front line and flying as co-pilot in the left seat with an experienced captain in the right hand seat. [ Note although fixed wing usually have the captain in the left hand seat, in helicopters  - its usually in the right hand seat ]

"Price Charles gave medals to RAF personnel, before attending the graduation ceremony and presenting a flying badge to his son. " The person writing the story had clearly not looked at the video which shows a certificate being presented.

I was once married to a journalist. Motto: "Never let the facts stand in the way of a good story."  Crazy
Also, like policemen, they are NEVER off duty!

Quote from: mal0z

I echo your request for a normalnewspaper but I fear that no such paper exists.
If there is and anyone recommends one I would buy a lifelong subscription............
Actually, I firmly believe that the 'sensation' reporting we are subjected to causes a lot of strife, anger, and even wars in the world by enflaming unnecessarily those who believe everything is as bad as the papers make out...and it's not just the papers...most forms of media are guilty, especially TV  Sad

If you want a paper that has "nice stories" get the Sunday Post - it is Scottish and light, easy to read!

Whatever or whenever Prince William gained this or that, I ask myself 'Why?'
Strikes me that he his a big boy playing games with big toys. Seems a waste of time and taxpayers money to me.
He'll never be allowed to do anything worthwhile with the qualification.
It's like someone training to be a doctor and going on the dole or to work on the buses!
What a farce!  Angry
