Don't be a Dick

When Ruth Levy went online to create a personalised birthday card for a 90-year-old friend called Dick, it turned out his common name of yesteryear has been banned as a modern profanity.

The firm’s only suggestion was that Mrs Levy called her friend Richard. Instead, Mrs Levy sent Dick - a friend of more than fifty years - a card by post.

I thought it was common knowledge that Dick was a nickname for Richard?
The world has gone mad.

Or in one of the Piddle communities.
As for dick being a modern profanity, maybe it was a couple of decades ago.
When's the last time you've been called a dick or dick-head or heard something similar on the gogglebox?
Even then would it really have been described as a profanity?
