Does anyone remember...... or am I dreaming?

Does anyone remember back on the late 60s or very early 70s an experimental broadcast on tv, where you got colour images on black and white television ? From what I can remember it was only on the test card and the colours were more like an 'impression' or a very faint hue.
My friend doubts my sanity, probably with just cause...but I am convinced I am right on this occasion.

Yes you are correct.
I Think what they did was to display a rotating disk which gave the illusion you could see the colour green if you stared at it.

Something else the BBC did was to download computer programs that you could record on a tape recorder and play on the BBC Micro.... more people are likely to remember that.
On pages 700 Teletext there was pages of stuff in Hexadecimal figures but I never understood what that was about.

Colour on a black and white TV sound like an April Fool joke to me in the same vein as spaghetti trees

No there was no colour, it was the rotating disc that made you think you could see the colour Green.
Amazing how your sight can be tricked, it's like watching a bicycle wheel turning and when it get to a certain speed it appears to be going backwards but obviously it is not.

Yes, I remember them.... but I dont`t remember anything about a disc... I seem to remember some kind of test card, that had red and green parts ... and I think this was produced by a quick moving shift of the black and white bars inside the squares....I tried to find some ref to it on Wiki, but can`t... may be worth an "extended" google search.

Re: Does anyone remember...... or am I dreaming?

it did exist. it was a test signal generated in late 1967 but it wasn for black and white sets it was for colour sets. the test image created a side effect of seeing green/red in the squares. it wasnt long lived and dropped within a few months.

How about the Albert Square in 3D again an optical illusion, the figures all moved right to left and it was fairly convincing

. logically, why would they want to do this on a colour tv?
