DOCTORS & NURSES SHORTAGE, WHY DON'T THEY MAKE DEGREE COURSES FOR UK NATIONALS FREE ?Huh

Seems like an obvious solution

Student nurses are quitting courses in their droves amid fears over Britain's 40,000 vacant nursing posts

  • One in four student nurses drop out before finishing degrees, research found
  • RCN believe student nurses may quit because they struggle to make ends meet
  • Dropout rates will raise further questions about the value of nursing degrees

Re: Doctors & Nurses

All this nonsense could have been avoided if the training of nurses was undertaken by hospitals in schools of nursing like it did in the past.

This offered on the job training whilst paying (ok a pittance) but on passing exams a job was often available in the same hospital.

How stupid it was to make all training university based, sure it produces highly qualified people but how skilled are they in basic nursing tasks or even want to do basic nursing ?

We are born into history and history is born into us.

Re: Doctors & Nurses

Graduates expect a graduate salary, which nursing does not provide.  And 1% pay rises when RPI has been running at 3 to 4% has done nothing to make nursing an attractive career.  When an independent review body recommends a certain pay rise for health staff, the government often ignore it.  However, when an independent review body recommends a pay rise for MPs, the government claim they have no option but to implement it in full.
