Re: Do you feel you are getting old

One of the things that I hate about getting older is the number of people that I know who have illness or have been bereaved - it becomes ever more common.
The aches and pains are also a nuisance, as is the reduction in stamina and ability to complete jobs that a few years ago you could have done in a short time. Everything has to be paced these days.
However, there are benefits - don't let things bother me like they used to and if I'm a bit grumpy or forgetful, just put it down to age - an excellent excuse.
IMO it's true that you know you are getting old when the police officers look as if they are just out of nappies.

Re: Do you feel you are getting old

Think I might of posted something like this before:
I used to like the "IT" series of window stickers:
Glider pilots do IT quietly
Squash players do IT up against a wall
Telephonists only do IT if theres a phone handy
There were many of them, nobody ever defined what IT was, but some had a shrewd idea.
Experience; is something you gain, just after you needed it most.

When faced with two choices, simply toss a coin. It works not because it settles the question for you. But because in that brief moment while the coin is in the air. You suddenly know what you are hoping for.

Re: Do you feel you are getting old

When they first came out, there was no such thing as IT, not in common parlance anyway. So there wasn't much doubt as to what IT meant. Not sure it was capitalised then.
I had 'Young Farmers do it in wellies' as a strip across the top of my windscreen sometime around 1975. My Mum hated it when she had to use my car.
I spent a lot of time in wellies in those days. Never did IT in wellies though, whichever meaning you care to put on it (unless you are using a different definition of wellies).
On a slightly different theme & many years later, I also had 'Glider pilots stay up longer'. I'm not sure it ever made it onto the car though - I had gone all respectable by then.

Re: Do you feel you are getting old

@Simon M. yes you're probably right IT probably wasn't capitalised, I just did for emphasis here, I think in many of those I saw "it" was in a different colour.

Re: Do you feel you are getting old

Just received this from a friend - says it all really:
Someone had to remind me, so I'm reminding you too. Don't laugh....
it is all true...
Perks of reaching 50 or being over 60 and heading towards 70 or even 80!
1. Kidnappers are not very interested in you.
2. In a hostage situation you are likely to be released first.
3. No one expects you to run--anywhere.
4. People call at 9 pm and ask, did I wake you?
5. People no longer view you as a hypochondriac.
6. There is nothing left to learn the hard way.
7. Things you buy now won't wear out.
8. You can eat supper at 4 pm.
9. You can live without sex but not your glasses.
10. You get into heated arguments about pension plans.
11. You no longer think of speed limits as a challenge.
12. You quit trying to hold your stomach in no matter who walks into the room.
13. You sing along with elevator music.
14. Your eyes won't get much worse.
15. Your investment in health insurance is finally beginning to pay off.
16. Your joints are more accurate meteorologists than the national weather service.
17. Your secrets are safe with your friends because they can't remember them either..
18. Your supply of brain cells is finally down to manageable size.
19. You can't remember who sent you this list.
