do you mean putting them on to a storage device (e.g. disk) or sticking them in a cardboard box in your garage? Smiley

Re: Do you Protect you stored files, before placing them into storage

I voted no as I regularly run AV (including updates) and other security software I feel I am pretty safe.

I don't use any software for archiving preferring to do things manually as and when required.

Where's the option for 'I keep my AV up-to-date'? - just like Mav

Re: Do you Protect you stored files, before placing them into storage

I burn all my data to gold CD-R discs because gold innit. I then send the disks to my holistic IT shaman who spends several days chanting and performing reiki on the data to ensure that all bits are happy. Once all the bits are happy the disks are sent to Tibet where they sit in a temple for a period of six weeks, during which time they are offered gifts. The discs are then sealed in beeswax and returned to me by courier. I tend to scrape off the beeswax with chisels (you try successfully reading data from discs covered in wax) and I throw them in the coal bunker which now serves as a data centre. Sometimes the rats get at them, and occasionally rain but my backup regimen is lossy so I expect to lose up to 45% of all backed up data.
I don't check them for viruses though because I believe all life is sacred  Smiley

I can't really vote.. it depends which of the machines it is in the house it is - if it's a pi or a mac, no; if it's one of the disgusting windows machines then yes.
