Do you GOOGLE?

Do you GOOGLE?
Google makes public Governments' censorship, data requests
mms://217.218.67.244/presstv/20100422/OUTPUT_07-27-00-FTP-RHONDA-WASHINGTON.wmv
I guess someone must have censored that too, hence the lack of sound after the first minute or so,
but there`s sufficient said to give us the picture.
I was particularly disturbed to learn, a few days ago, that YouTube are now requesting a cell phone
number from newcomers who sign up for a YouTube account.
I do NOT know if this applies in the UK however, whilst I read the info from a U.S. news source, and
it might therefore only apply to users in the U.S.
I can see no reason for YouTube doing this, other than for :
1. Tracking purposes regards copyrighted material (in connection with the Digital Censorship Bill)
or
2. Tracking purposes regards political /religious beliefs.
unless of course I`m missing something here.

Re: Do you GOOGLE?

What is the point, some mobile phones are sold as "disposable" i.e. use the credit and dump it. I personally have about 8 mobile numbers that I can't remember and probably will never use  Wink They also are NOT registered to me, just walk into one of the phone company stores and ask for a PAYG sim, usually FREE. No details required!
I have a couple of 3 ones for free 3-3 skype calls and their topup offer of 150Mb free with every £10 topup (valid for 3 months) makes it tempting for my small amount of mobile BB use.

Thanks Asbo Dog for your link.
The video is still accessable on Press TV :  http://www.presstv.ir/
(just scroll down the page)  but the sound cuts off after a minute
as I said.
Hairy Biker - yes I am aware of the disposable mobiles - and perhaps
thats the irony here, whilst in fact, the criminal fraternity will probably
buy those,  whilst everyone else will be tracked by the huge GPS system
in the sky.
But again this applies also to many other things if we look around at how
its the innocents who are being tracked whilst the criminals get away
scot free.
Please DONT misinterpret me:  I`m not suggesting that everyone who
uses disposable phones are criminals lol.    I`m just trying to explain a
point here.

This is because it's the crimimamals job to ensure they dont get caught and so with one ear on the ground and learning the latest scam's " some do slip the net" Hence why new technologies and ideas are always updating.

Re: Do you GOOGLE?

from what I did read via either google UK or the BBC yesterday, the only place that has actual censorship is China, all other request where to take down contentious or pornographic posts including child ones, whats wrong with that
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8633642.stm
Quote
The search giant has launched an online tool breaking down the figures which it hopes will be "just the first step toward increased transparency".
"The vast majority of these requests are valid and the information needed is for legitimate criminal investigations or for the removal of child pornography, " said David Drummond, Google's chief legal officer.
