Do any of you...

... play card games.
Years ago we used to play many different games frequently like Bridge, Rummy and my favourite Canasta. I still play Canasta but my only opponent now is the computer. Used to play online with my mother but, at 85, she rarely uses the PC these days.
Every year the family got together at Christmas for a compendium of games ranging from Pontoon to Chase the Ace and Russian Banker. Quite a fair bit of readies changed hands those nights Cheesy
These days youngster don't seem to play accept for things like Snap & Go Fish.
I miss playing card games but anything more complicated than Snap gets the thumbs down Sad
I must say I am addicted to Spider and Hearts on the PC  Cool
Edit: Not forgetting Cribbage

Re: Do any of you...

Nope, I was never taught any card games or chess for that matter.
Needless to say I get bored easily when watching card games / tricks on TV as it's all foreign to me.
I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!

Re: Do any of you...

My twin brother and I were taught to count as pre-primary school playing cards. A great way to learn. We were playing Whist and Solo at quite a young age. Play quite a lot of Canasta and Cribbage these days.
My one regret with cards is never quite getting to grips with Bridge, but only because there was never any body else about who wanted to play it, other than that I think I've played most of the well known games at some time or another (including some casino gambling games)

When faced with two choices, simply toss a coin. It works not because it settles the question for you. But because in that brief moment while the coin is in the air. You suddenly know what you are hoping for.

Re: Do any of you...

I was taught to play whist when very young (and small).  My father took me to whist drives, where everyone seemed to be 100 to a young child. The prizes were such goodies as a sack of potatoes, bottle of sanatogen, basket of fruit etc.
I'll never forget my mothers face when I proudly walked in with my winnings - a brace of pheasants!
She had to ask a neighbour to prepare them.

Whist, that was another game I really liked.
Like Petlew, I could never really get to grips with Bridge and was a totally rubbish player.

Re: Do any of you...

Whist, played by good players is a cut-throat game. Try playing a wrong choice of card in a competitive game and see what it gets you...drummed out of a "drive"
But my favourite card game is Solo Whist.
Anyone ever played card Cricket? great game for two players?
Another good two player game is Double Pack Patience (sometimes known as Russian Bank)

Re: Do any of you...

Bridge is good, I just don't like the people who play it.
Now Zen, but a +Net residue.

I like to play Solitaire but I'm not very good at it as the other players usually win Sad
